WebSerial — The Browser is the Driver

Standard PMS terminals require installing heavy desktop DLL wrappers or dedicated daemon scripts to communicate with physical peripherals. These drivers break on OS updates, require IT support to maintain, and create security vulnerabilities.

Lumina utilizes modern, browser-native WebSerial and WebHID APIs. You plug in a USB device, grant a single browser permission, and communicate directly — no middleware, no daemons, no IT tickets.

Browser Sandbox Security Model

Unlike local daemon-based approaches that run with system-level privileges, Lumina's peripheral connections operate inside the browser sandbox. Each device requires an explicit user permission grant. Data transmitted between the browser and the peripheral never touches the network — it flows directly over the local USB bus. If a guest's passport scan contains sensitive data, it's processed entirely client-side and encrypted before transmission to the cloud.

Stripe Terminal Smart Reader Integration

Payment processing is tightly integrated with the hardware bridge. Stripe Terminal smart readers connect via the browser's JavaScript SDK, enabling tap-to-pay, chip insert, and contactless NFC payments. The card number never touches Lumina's servers — it flows directly from the reader to Stripe's tokenization infrastructure. This places the entire property out of PCI audit scope.

Hot-Swap Device Management

Peripheral devices can be connected and disconnected at will. Lumina detects when a USB device is plugged in and automatically offers to pair it. If a keycard encoder fails mid-shift, the clerk unplugs it, plugs in a replacement, and grants permission — the system is back online in seconds. No restarts, no IT calls, no downtime.
